About
Four countries,
one profession.
A medical training that began in Istanbul continued in Boston, Minsk and California. This page is not a list of credentials; it is the story of how that path was built.
Cerrahpaşa, Istanbul
Medical school at Cerrahpaşa
Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa, English Medical Faculty. One of the faculties that has ranked among Turkey’s highest for decades; after six years of training came the medical degree in 2012.
Boston, United States
Pre-residency observership and research
The first trip to Boston came during medical school: he completed his dermatology rotation at Harvard Medical School. That trip opened the door for everything that followed.
Before starting his plastic surgery training he was accepted as an observer in the Division of Plastic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School, under the supervision of Dr. Simon Talbot.
The programme ran on meetings that began at six in the morning. He joined the inpatient rounds and watched many of the operations scheduled during that period from inside the theatre.
It was here that the difference became clear between learning a technique from a book and watching how the operating hand decides. Time spent in one of the oldest plastic surgery departments in the United States set the direction for the choices that followed.

Minsk, Belarus
Residency in plastic and aesthetic surgery
He completed his specialty training in Minsk, at BELMAPO (Belarusian Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education), in the Department of Plastic and Microsurgery.
Microsurgery was what set this training apart: the precision gained in millimetre work such as vessel and nerve repair translates directly into how tissue is brought together in aesthetic surgery, and into the quality of the scar.
Throughout his training he worked with two internationally recognised surgeons: Dr. Podgayski and Dr. Batiukov. He spent the final year at Dr. Dmitry Batiukov’s aesthetic surgery clinic, Antes Med, in Minsk.
Russian became, in this period, not a language studied but a language worked in, in the operating theatre.

California
Post-residency research fellowship
At the University of California, Irvine he spent a year as a plastic surgery research fellow under the supervision of Dr. Gregory R. D. Evans and Dr. Mark Kobayashi.
Alongside the research he followed the aesthetic surgery practice of both mentors closely: observing operations and attending lectures and case conferences.
I describe that year as the period in which I gained a plastic surgery perspective in my career.
Op. Dr. K. Berat Oyur

ECFMG · GMC
United States and United Kingdom
Having successfully passed the USMLE steps (the United States Medical Licensing Examinations), he was awarded the ECFMG certificate in 2019. The certificate is valid in the United States and many other countries.
In 2024 he completed GMC (General Medical Council) registration and obtained a United Kingdom medical licence.
These are the most expensive decorations for a plastic surgeon wall: knowing the standard of the same operation in different countries means being able to choose which standard to apply.

Congresses and cadaver courses
A continuing connection with mentors
Dr. Simon Talbot at Harvard, Dr. Podgayski and Dr. Dmitry Batiukov in Minsk, Dr. Gregory R. D. Evans and Dr. Kobayashi in California. These names did not stay as lines on a CV; the contact with internationally recognised surgeons continued after the training ended.
He takes part in congresses and cadaver courses in Turkey and abroad, as both instructor and participant; Full Face Global is one of them. Techniques in plastic surgery change quickly, and watching the surgeon who uses a method is not the same as reading about it in a paper. Learning the TULUA technique in abdominoplasty from Dr. Francisco Villegas, who developed it, is one example.
What this means for the patient: knowing how the same operation is performed in different countries makes it possible to choose what suits the patient rather than staying with a single technique.

Istanbul
Atlas University and clinical practice
He is currently the head of the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery at Atlas University. He has residents and medical students, and one of his passions is “teaching”.
He organises congresses and cadaver courses in Turkey and abroad, and continues to participate in these programmes as both an instructor and a participant.
His main clinical practice areas are facial rejuvenation, especially deep-plane facelift, body contouring, and post-pregnancy restoration (mommy makeover) surgery.

Languages
Consultations in five languages
Being able to speak the language in which a patient expresses themselves most easily is the shortest route to understanding their expectations correctly.
Personal
Outside the operating theatre
He makes pottery; he calls it his passion. He plays guitar and saxophone. That a profession worked with the hands is balanced by pursuits worked with the hands is no coincidence.
Let’s talk about your situation
What you read here is a general framework. What suits you is determined only by an examination.
